This member of the morning glory family produces masses of dazzling 1.5 in. tubular flowers that mature from soft lemon yellow, through orange and deep rusty red. A plant in full bloom will never be forgotten. Incredibly showy, it deserves to be the focal point of your flower garden. Grows to 10 ft. or more tall. Annual. Packet is ½ gram, about 25 seeds.
Growing Firecracker Vine Seeds
Plant Firecracker Vine Seeds: To quicken germination, soak seed in lukewarm water for 2 hours, or nick the pointed end with a knife or nail clippers. Then sow in 2 in. pots or cell packs and cover with ¼ in. of soil. Kept at 70°F., germination is in 14-28 days. Can be direct sown after all danger of frost, 4-6 seeds per foot. Thin to 12-36 in. apart.
Grow Firecracker Vine: Full or part sun. Nearly any soil with good drainage. Heat tolerant, drought tolerant once established, faster growing, heavier blooming with regular water. Nectar-rich flowers are loved by hummingbirds and butterflies. Deer resistant.
