Sky-blue, 2 in. double fringed, thistle-like flowers in late spring and early summer. In mild summer areas Blue Ball bachelor's button will continue to flower until September when old blooms are removed.
Flowers attract butterflies, are superb additions to fresh or dried arrangements. Blue Ball bachelor's button plants are deer resistant and grow to 24-36 in. tall. Sow seeds in fall in mild winter areas, and early spring everywhere. Packet is 3 grams, about 500 seeds.
Growing Blue Boy Bachelor's Button Seeds
Sow Bachelor's Button Seeds: Direct sow in rows, 6 seeds per foot as soon as the soil can worked in spring. Thin to 6-12 in. apart. Can be started indoors in 2 in. pots, 4 - 6 weeks before planting out. Kept at 65° F., germination is in 1-2 weeks.
Grow Bachelor's Button: Full sun, part sun in warm climates. Tolerates wide variety of soils provided drainage is good. Moderate water. Best performance in cool weather. In mild winter climates seed can be sown in fall for very early flowering the following season. Excellent cut flowers, fresh or dried. Attracts bees and butterflies. Deer resistant. Plants self-sow.
