Splish Splash contributes a flashy, artistic flair to the otherwise more subtle larkspur color range. Transposons, naturally-occurring genetic traits that are otherwise known as "jumping genes", exist in this larkspur variety, creating the bold and variable shades of red, magenta and pink splashes that are splattered over bright white 1 in. flowers. In spring, 36-48 in. densely-arranged flower spikes begin blooming and continue through early summer, providing armloads of showy blooms for fresh and dried bouquets. Favored by many pollinating insects, Splish Splash larkspur will generate a buzz in your early season beds, borders and along fence lines.
Growing Splish Splash Larkspur Seeds
Spread larkspur seed on an evenly moist paper towel, fold and put inside a zip-lock bag and place in the refrigerator for 2 weeks. Remove, and immediately sow seeds in rows in prepared seed beds, cover lightly. Thin seedlings to 10-18 in. apart. Sow larkspur from fall to early spring. Seeds can be started in small, individual containers provided seedlings are not allowed to become root bound. Transplant with care. Larkspur seeds are easy to germinate in cool (55° F. or below) soil.
