Strawberry Blonde French marigold, and Fireball, its deeper-colored companion in the New World marigold series, possess genetic properties that enable an amazing three-step flower color transformation. Double, fragrant, 2½ in. blooms open in a warm, russet-red shade, then change to apricot yellow, and mature to a rosy-peach shade, all on the same plant. Because hot weather speeds up these changes, flower color is most intense and the color changes are most apparent in spring and fall or during mild summer weather. Sturdy, well-branched plants grow 8-10 in. tall and wide. Strawberry Blonde will delight you all summer long when planted in containers, in the front of garden beds, along walkways, or en masse in drifts.
Growing Strawberry Blonde Marigold Seeds
Sow marigold seed in cell packs or flats, press into soil and lightly cover. Kept at 70-75°F. germination is in 5-20 days. Transplant seedlings into the garden 8-18 in. apart (spacing is variety specific, and is on our packets) after all danger of frost.
