Osteospermum
Akila Sunset Shades osteospermum is a formulated blend of 2-3 in. daisy-like flowers in sunset shades of yellow, color-changing rose-red, salmon, apricot, and orange. Plants form 10-14 in. mounds and, in most climates, bloom from early summer into fall.
Akila Sunset Shades osteospermum can be grown as a perennial in zones 9 and above and in climates with little winter frost flowering can continue well into the cool season.
Growing Akila Sunset Shades Osteospermum
Plant Osteospermum Seeds: Nick seed with nail clippers, then sow in cell packs or flats. Press into soil and barely cover. Kept at 70°F., germination is in 10-21 days. Transplant seedlings into the garden 12-16 in. apart after all danger of frost. Seedlings tolerate light frost, can be set out early in the season.
Grow Osteospermum: Full Sun. Flowers stay open during the day, even during cloudy weather. Deadheading blooms can extend the flowering season. Flowers attract butterflies. Plants resist heat, drought, and deer and withstand coastal conditions. Poor soil is tolerated when drainage is good.
