The pastel colors in Imperial Antique Shades pansies are well-suited for winter and spring displays. Edible and lightly fragrant, 1½-2½ flowers bloom in soft shades of cream, yellow, peach, apricot, rose and white. Plants range in size from 6 to 12 in. tall. Imperial Antique Shades pansies are one of the best pansies to grow for cut flowers, especially when overwintered in unheated greenhouses or tunnels, which encourages blooming stems to elongate. Combine with daffodils, iris, and tulips for lovely spring bouquets.
Growing Imperial Antique Shades Pansy Seeds
Sow pansy seed in cell packs or flats, press into soil and barely cover. Needs darkness to germinate. Cover flat with newspaper and keep out of direct sun. Remove newspaper cover and provide direct light as soon as the first seeds begin to sprout. Kept at 65-70°F., germination is in 14-21 days. Transplant into the garden 9-12 in. apart.
