Sunflower Seeds
Perhaps the showiest sunflower we know, Helios Flame is a robust branching, pollen-free hybrid. Each plant is topped with a magnificent large, long lasting, golden-yellow sunflower with a rich mahogany ring. Side branches produce an additional dozen or more blooms.
Flowers are held on long, sturdy stems, and make gorgeous cut flowers which last up to 10 days in the vase. Attractive plants grow to 6 feet tall — can create living “walls” in the summer garden. Helios Flame was one of the top performing sunflowers in our 2017 garden and the first tall sunflower to bloom in our 2018 garden.
Growing Helios Flame Sunflower Seeds
Plant Sunflower Seeds: Direct sow into prepared seed beds after all danger of frost. Plant seeds 6 in. apart, ½ in. deep. Thin to 1-1½ ft. apart. Can start plants early indoors in 2 in. pots or cell packs. Transplant into the garden well before seedlings become root bound.
Grow Sunflowers: Sunflowers require full sun. Soil which is moist and moderately fertile will produce the best flower heads. Blooms attract bees, birds and butterflies.
