Butterfly Bush flowers are the ultimate butterfly attractors.
This 7-10 ft. tall perennial produces graceful, long, large, fragrant plumes of lilac-like flowers in attractive shades of deep purple, bright pink, and clear white. Easy to grow, it flowers the first year when started early. Winter hardy to zone 5.
Growing Butterfly Bush Mix Seeds
Plant Butterfly Bush Seeds:
Sow seed in cell packs or flats, press into soil but do not cover. Needs light to germinate. Kept at 70-80°F., germination is spread out over a period of 1-5 weeks. Transfer into 3 in. pots as soon as seedlings are large enough to handle. Once the plants become well rooted, transplant into the garden 6 ft. apart. Grow Butterfly Bush: Butterfly bush plants flower on new growth, cut plants back to 6-12 in. tall in early spring before new growth begins to increase flowering and control size.
