The petals of Grenadin Black King carnation flowers are a darkest shade of red, appearing to be velvety black.
Grenadin Black King carnation freely produces large double, highly fragrant flowers on long, stiff stems. Blooms attract butterflies and make superb cut flowers. Flowers appear in flushes throughout summer and into fall. Bushy, base-branching plants with grassy, blue-gray leaves grow to 20-24 in. tall and require little or no support.
Grenadin Black King carnation is most often grown as a biennial or short-lived perennial, it can be grown as an annual when started early indoors. Best performance is in areas with mild summer weather. Winter hardy to zone 4. Packet is ½ gram, about 250 seeds.
Growing Grenadin Black King Dianthus Seeds
Sow dianthus seeds in cell packs or flats, press into soil and lightly cover. Kept at 65-70°F., germination is in 1-2 weeks. Transplant seedlings into the garden 12-18 in. apart.
