Dense, evergreen clumps of bright green foliage grow 2 ft tall and 4 ft. wide. In early summer, arching, fountain-shaped flower spikes develop, reaching 6 ft. tall or more. Purple-tinged silvery green panicles of large, oat-like seeds follow, turning an attractive light bronze color in late summer, and persisting into the fall. Cut spikes make nice fall and winter arrangements. Giant Feather grass is heat and drought tolerant and winter hardy to zone 6.
Growing Giant Feather Grass Ornamental Grass Seeds
Sow ornamental grass seed in cell packs or flats, press into soil but do not cover. Needs light to germinate. Kept at 65-75° F., germination is in 7-35 days, depending on the variety.
