Mad Hatter
Hot Pepper Seeds
(Hybrid) 65 to 70 days green; 85 to 90 days red
2017 All-America Selections Winner. Mad Hatter is a member of the South American pepper species, Capsicum baccatum, which typically land very high on the Scoville scale. The Scotch bonnet shape also suggests a fruit with a hot temper. Not so! Mad Hatter fruit has refreshingly sweet citrus-like taste, occasionally with a hint of heat near the seeds. Use Mad Hatter fruits raw in salads, stuff with cheese, or make them into unusually beautiful pickles. Vigorous, branching, high yielding plants grow to 3-4 ft. tall, and benefit from being staked.
Growing Mad Hatter Hot Pepper Seeds
Sow hot pepper seeds indoors in cell packs or flats, 8 weeks before the last anticipated frost. At 70-90°F., germination is in 8-25 days. When the soil has warmed to at least 60°F., transplant into the garden 18-24 in. apart.
