Miscanthus sinensis
Produces long, silky tresses of silvery-cream or pink plumes in summer. In autumn they turn to gold. An excellent perennial for screens: tolerates wet soil, is highly deer resistant. New Hybrids Miscanthus is a wide ranging mix, varying in plume and foliage color, leaf width, and plant height, from as short as 3 ft. to as tall as 8 ft. Most common is 6-7 ft. tall. Winter hardy to zone 4. In late winter/early spring, shear plants low to the ground.
Plant New Hybrids Miscanthus Seeds: Sow seeds in cell packs or flats, press into soil — do not cover. Light aids germination. Keep soil evenly moist. Kept at 62-72° F., germination is in 7 to 22 days. For best results, transplant seedlings into 4 inch pots and place under lights, in a sunny window, or in a protected position outdoors. Once seedlings have rooted, place your New Hybrids Miscanthus into the garden 2 to 3 feet apart. Can direct sow in groups of 3 seeds, spaced 24 to 36 inches apart.
